Thiruchitrambalam movie review

Thiruchitrambalam movie review :

Summary:

Story of a delivery guy (Thiruchimtrambalam aka Pazham played by Dhanush), his childhood friend/best friend Shobhana (Nithya Menon), his quirky grandfather (Bharatiraja), his father (Prakash Raj) and others. A light hearted grounded film with some relatable characters. Definitely worth a watch, even if there are couple of things I didn't particularly like. 7.75/10

(no spoilers)

Positives:

1. Grounded film with relatable characters

2. Very good to excellent acting of Nithya, Dhanush and Bharatiraja.

3. The storyline for most part

4. The comedy is good

5. Good job from the support cast

Things that I didn't like/flaws:

1. The twist in the pre-climax (not going to spoil)

2. His choice of profession given what happened. (again not going to spoil)

3. Not a flaw per se, but didn't particularly liked the father-son tension being there for so long.

Details including spoilers:

1. Bharatiraja is very good as the funny, quirky grandfather Thiru Sr.
2. Dhanush is pretty convincing as Thiru, but there were still couple of scenes where he could have done a little better I felt.
3. Nithya is a delight as Shobhana and I'd say the best performance of the lot, shading Dhanush's by a bit.

Things I liked:

1. I liked that they didn't end the climax scene at the airport. Realistic.
2. Anusha (Raashi Khanna) flirting with Thiru giving him wrong signals is relatable.
3. The village girl refusing to give her number is again very relatable.
4. The small little quarrels/fights/arguments and reconciliations are all well done and relatable

Elaborating on the flaws/things I didn't like

1. Shobhana being in love with Thiru from a young age. Unnecessary twist and leads to gaps. She had so many chances, but doesn't tell him. Then when he finally proposes to her, she doesn't accept or be angry at him (for supposedly treating her like rebound like her brother says).

2. Thiru is traumatized by the road accident that leads to the death of his mother and younger sister. But choses profession of delivery guy, which involves lot of driving on the road. Eh? You may say financial compulsion, but this is the same guy who doesn't stand up for his best friend Shobana when someone insults/teases her saying he's afraid. Come on! They went a bit too far with the afraid thing I guess.
