Sapta Saagardaache Ello Side A movie review

Sapta Saagardaache Ello Side A

Watched Sapta Saagardaache Ello Side A on OTT. Disappointed compared to the reviews I had heard. I'd say 6.25/10. Definitely not a top notch movie as made out to be.

Positives:

  • some pretty good acting
  • pretty good chemistry between the leads Manu(Rakshith Shetty) and Priya(Rukmini Vasanth)
  • some hard hitting reality
  • good support cast, though not remarkable

Negatives:

  • feels like a drag of misery
  • way too many logical flaws or stupid stuff. feels like done to drag out the misery at times or not well thought out. either way, big big -ve..
  • Main male character Manu being such a fool and doesn't do anything significant to redeem himself. I simply couldn't or cannot root for him

Other negatives including  with expansion of logical flaws or stupid stuff below with spoilers.

1. For such a big decision, without even asking the advice of any well-wisher, Manu accepts to take the blame of accident for money for fulfilling Priya's dream. He only tells even Priya after taking the decision and doesn't even pause to think much after she says not to.

2. Manu doesn't even take lakhs of money in advance for himself. Even if his boss is kind-hearted, you don't take such a big risk without taking money in advance.

3. Prabhu (played by Achyuth Kumar) advises the boss's wife that Manu coming out of jail on bail is risky - when Manu had kept his mouth shut and taken the blame. Manu would have continued to do so had he been bailed out and paid the promised money.

I mean the much bigger risk was keeping Manu in jail and having him pissed off and frustrated leading him to possibly reveal that it was the boss' son who caused the death. I mean you use the carrot or the stick (possibly threat here), but you do NOT neglect.

4. After being betrayed, Manu doesn't think of revealing the truth or threatening to tell the truth to get free himself? WTF.

5. What sort of jungle court is this? Starts off judgement with - defence has failed to establish innocence? WTF, defence doesn't have to prove innocence.

6. What exactly is the evidence that Manu was the one who caused the accident? He withdraws his confession. There is no eyewitness, there is no video/picture evidence (I mean there isn't even any attempt to frame with a photoshopped picture or something).

7. 304A - accidental death due to negligent/rash driving is usually a bailable offence. Why isn't his 2nd lawyer able to get Manu out?

8. I get that Priya has to move on, but not convincing that she agrees to get married as quickly as she does. There is the 5 stages of grief, you know. Takes some time. Agreeing to move on is perfectly fine, but getting married so quickly. Doesn't really look good.

1 or 2 can be excused as necessary for film plot. But not so many of them.

I mean Priya keeps calling Manu a katte (donkey) so many times that I'd be a millionnaire if I got a dollar for everytime she said that. Endearing first couple of times, then gets annoying. But then going by Manu's actions in the film .......

9. There is also that Manu is committing a big moral wrong by letting his boss' son go scott free for rash driving death. Who knows if it may repeat? All this for dream of beach-house for Priya? I mean this ain't Drishyam where the male protagonist does what he does to protect his family and circumstances were accidental (not gonna repeat)

Other stuff:

1. Rakshit Shetty's films are an alternate between actually good ones and hyped ones.

Simple Aaga Ondu Love Story was pretty good.

Kirik Party meh and so over-rated.

Charlie 777 was top notch.

Sapta is meh and again so over-rated.

2. Had great actors, very good chemistry. Could have been a very good film had they made it less misery, make Manu's character less stupid and or had less stupid decisions/logical flaws overall in the film.
