CAIR (Council on American–Islamic Relations) exposed

 The problems with CAIR.

1. Chris Gaubatz undercover operation of CAIR :

The undercover operation operation was in around 2008. The testimony in 2016.

Testimony to the Senate from Chris Gaubatz.

I'm mentioning only a part of it. You can read the full testimony from the link below

"The HLF trial was adjudicated in Dallas, TX in 2008, and identified CAIR as a member of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, which is Hamas, a designated foreign terrorist organization.5 The U.S. Government identified Hamas as an “outgrowth of the Muslim Brotherhood”6. Documents entered into evidence in the HLF trial also revealed that ISNA, the Islamic Society of North America, is a Muslim Brotherhood organization which financially supports Hamas – a terrorist organization.

At the time it was indicted, the Holy Land Foundation was the largest Islamic charity in the US, and was convicted on 108 counts for funneling over $12 million to a foreign terrorist organization, Hamas, which is the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood."

"During my time conducting undercover research as an intern for Hamas, both at CAIR MD/VA in Herndon, VA, and CAIR National in Washington DC, I preserved documents that revealed Hamas doing business as CAIR:

-Conspired to cover-up fraud committed by one of their immigration attorneys

-Discussed coordinating with Bin Laden and his associates

-Placed staffers and interns inside congressional offices

-Conspired to influence congress, specifically judiciary, intelligence, and homeland security committees

-Impacted congressional districts, tasking each Hamas Chapter office with influencing at least two legislators

Ordered books from the Saudi embassy on the virtue of jihad and martyrdom

-Worked with a Muslim law enforcement officer to influence a major terrorism investigation by accessing a classified federal police database and tipping off the suspect

The current administration and the US national security apparatus continues to use leaders of Muslim Brotherhood groups like ISNA, the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), CAIR, and others to provide direct input into American foreign policy and domestic counter-terrorism strategies."

During his time there, Chris obtained over 12,000 pages of documents from Hamas/CAIR and over 300 hours of covert audio/video recordings. The entire story is featured in the book Muslim Mafia authored by investigative journalist Paul Sperry and Dave Gaubatz (Chris’ Father).

2. Terrorism/money laundering convictions/deportations and CAIR's responses

a) In April, Randall Royer of Fairfax was sentenced to 20 years by a federal judge after pleading guilty to using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and carrying an explosive during the commission of a felony. Royer was arrested a year ago on charges of conspiring to join the Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is on the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations, as well as weapons charges (an AK-47-style assault rifle was found in his car along with 200 rounds of ammunition upon his arrest). Royer had been CAIR’s communications director and civil-rights coordinator.

b) Earlier this month, five Palestinian brothers were convicted in federal court of conspiring to use their Texas-based computer company to make illegal shipments of high-tech goods to Libya and Syria, two nations the State Department considers sponsors of terrorism. One of the brothers, Ghassan Elashi, the company’s vice president of international marketing, was convicted of three counts of conspiracy, one count of money laundering and two counts of making false statements about the shipments. Mr. Elashi is also the founding board member of a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) chapter in Texas, according to the Dallas Morning News.

More from the same article :

The Washington-based organization, which has described itself as a “Muslim NAACP,” does itself no favors by failing to condemn these criminals when they are convicted; indeed, in numerous cases, it has continued to actively defend them. After the Elashi convictions, for example, Khalil Meek, who serves on the board of directors of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of CAIR, said: “We believe that these convictions indicate a growing disparity and climate of injustice for Muslims, who we feel are being selectively prosecuted and given unfair sentences precisely because they are Muslim or Arab … This is not justice.” CAIR also labeled the government’s handling of the Royer case “draconian.”

-----------

We understand that no organization can be responsible for the independent actions of its officials or affiliated members. To its credit, CAIR has denounced terrorist acts, most recently the beheadings of two Americans in Iraq. At the same time, the examples cited above reveal some unsettling connections between certain CAIR officials and extremist groups that demand at a minimum an internal investigation.

Now from a DOJ release :

RANDALL TODD ROYER AND IBRAHIM AHMED AL-HAMDI SENTENCED FOR PARTICIPATION IN VIRGINIA JIHAD NETWORK

http://archive.is/uUfl7

c) Abdurahman Alamoudi: CAIR-Northern Virginia director. “On July 30, 2004, Alamoudi pleaded guilty to three federal offenses: one count of violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which imposes terrorism-related sanctions prohibiting unlicensed travel to and commerce with Libya; one count of false statements made in his application for naturalization; and a tax offense involving a long-term scheme to conceal from the IRS his financial transactions with Libya and his foreign bank accounts and to omit material information from the tax returns filed by his charities.” — official US Department of Justice press release. New York Times and Associated Press both talked about him. “Alamoudi became a naturalized citizen in 1996. He is the founder and former executive director of the American Muslim Council (AMC), the founder of the American Muslim Foundation (AMF), and was an influential member of other Islamic political and charitable organizations.” Court documents are here, if you like those.

d) Muthanna Al-Hanooti: This American Midwest Leadership Council website lists Muthanna Al-Hanooti as “the founder of CAIR Michigan and the co-founder of the Islamic Center of Detroit.” It depends on your definition of terrorism, really. In this guy’s case he was charged in 2008 for funneling $34,000 through the Islamic charity Life for Relief and Development, to pay for a 2002 US Congress trip to Baghdad. “He was charged with working as an unregistered Iraqi agent, violating economic sanctions against Iraq and making false statements. He was released on $100,000 bond with an electronic monitor after an initial court appearance in Detroit. The indictment said Saddam’s oil ministry gave al-Hanooti two million barrels of oil in exchange for his help, and he resold the oil,” says Reuters. The local community was shocked, to say the least. ABC covered it. The New York Times too. Here’s court documents. He was sentenced to a year in prison in 2011.

Getting back to b) Ghassan Elaishi again :

From a DoJ release

In April 2005, the jury found that Bayan Elashi, Ghassan Elashi, Basman Elashi and Infocom Corporation conspired together and sent money to co-defendant Mousa Abu Marzook, an investor in Infocom and a self-admitted leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement, a/k/a Hamas.

Note, that in 2007 CAIR says :

Ghassan Elashi was not a 'founding board member' of CAIR.

http://archive.is/rDpIr#selection-1003.294-1003.356

Current website is updated to say :

Elashi was never an employee of CAIR. The fact that Elashi was once briefly associated with one of our more than 30 regional chapters has no legal significance to our organization.

https://archive.is/ubrf0

Dallas morning news had said :

"Mr. Elashi is also the founding board member of a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) chapter in Texas, according to the Dallas Morning News."

Note that CAIR has correctly corrected the record on 2 other names frequently brought up : Baseem Khalfagi and Rabih Hadad, neither of whom were CAIR employees.

BASSEM EL-KHAFAGI

El-Khafagi was never an employee of CAIR and was never convicted on terrorism charges. According to the Associated Press article announcing his plea, federal officials stated that he was charged with writing bad checks in February and June of 2001. El-Khafagi was an independent contractor for CAIR, effective November 2, 2001. The actions of which he was accused occurred before any relationship with CAIR commenced, and without any knowledge by CAIR of any wrongdoing on his part. Writing bad checks is a criminal offense, not terrorism. If there had been clear evidence of terrorist activities, the Justice Department would have vigorously pursued those avenues.

RABIH HADDAD

Haddad was likewise never an employee or associate of CAIR. He was “deported for overstaying his tourist visa” and was “never charged with a crime.” His single relation to CAIR was as a speaker at one CAIR chapter event. Contrary as to what is sometimes claimed, he was never a “CAIR fundraiser.”

3. Nihad Awad, co-founder and and Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), announcing his support for Hamas and further deflection :

In March 1994 ( link has video ):

Transcript:

Awad: I used to support the PLO, and I used to be the President of the General Union of Palestine Students which is part of the PLO here in the United States, but after I researched the situation inside Palestine and outside, I am in support of the Hamas movement more than the PLO.

https://www.investigativeproject.org/223/cairs-awad-in-support-of-the-hamas-movement

From the blog link mentioned below :

Nihad Awad’s common deflection, when confronted with this clip, is that this was before Hamas was internationally recognized as a terrorist group. What Nihad Awad doesn’t know is that I do my homework and I found the Hamas website that lists their acts of violence in a “glory record.” A majority of which are dated prior to March 22, 1994, and going back as far as April 1988. CAIR says Awad is off the hook because Hamas didn’t commit its first suicide bombing until October 1994. There was more than enough to go off of that demonstrates a need to disavow Hamas. Bill Clinton just happened to make them an official terrorist group on January 24th, 1995.

-----

In fairness to Awad, I’ll mention his 2006 quote to AP that revises his stance on Hamas. “I don’t support Hamas today. My position and CAIR’s position is extremely clear: we condemn suicide bombings. We are mainstream American Muslims.”

That’s nice. But there’s still proof that Nihad is employing the same strategies of deception that were first discussed at the October 1993 Philadelphia meeting.......

4. Holy Land Foundation and Leaders Convicted on Providing Material Support to Hamas Terrorist Organization

In 2009 :

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/federal-judge-hands-downs-sentences-holy-land-foundation-case

The next 2 points are related to this case.

This one again in 2009:

5. FBI Cuts Ties With CAIR Following Terror Financing Trial

The FBI is severing its once-close ties with the nation's largest Muslim advocacy group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, amid mounting evidence that it has links to a support network for Hamas.

All local chapters of CAIR have been shunned in the wake of a 15-year FBI investigation that culminated with the conviction in December of Hamas fundraisers at a trial where CAIR itself was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator.

The U.S. government has designated Hamas as a terrorist organization.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/fbi-cuts-ties-with-cair-following-terror-financing-trial

From an article in 2010:

6. Federal Judge Agrees: CAIR Tied to Hamas

However, Solis refused to remove references to CAIR and the other groups from the trial record. That's because the government introduced extensive evidence tying CAIR to Hamas. "The public," he wrote, "may make its own judgment from evidence presented at trial."

https://www.investigativeproject.org/2340/federal-judge-agrees-cair-tied-to-hamas

7. CAIR designated as terrorist group by UAE:

US group CAIR named terrorist organization by United Arab Emirates

You can read the news as well as CAIR's response in the article.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/us-group-cair-named-terrorist-organization-by-united-arab-emirates

This is the full list of organizations desginated as terrorist groups by UAE. As far as I know, it has not removed CAIR from the list.

https://www.thenational.ae/uae/government/list-of-groups-designated-terrorist-organisations-by-the-uae-1.270037

What Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister  said when asked about it:

Q : You’re taking a leadership role in the fight against terrorism. You recently came out with a list of terrorist organisations. Two of them raised some eyebrows, as you can imagine, in Washington, the Council of American-Islamic Relations and the Muslim-American Society. Why did you do that?

A: Our threshold is quite low when we talk about extremism. We cannot accept incitement or funding when we look at some of these organisations. For many countries, the definition of terror is that you have to carry a weapon and terrorise people. For us, it’s much beyond that; we cannot tolerate even the smallest, tiniest amount of terrorism.

https://www.khaleejtimes.com/nation/government/we-know-region-better-than-west-shaikh-abdullah

This last divide concerns us here. After decades of working closely with the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and its related institutions, the Persian Gulf monarchies (with the single, striking exception of Qatar) have come to see the MB complex of institutions as a threat to their existence. The Saudi, Emirati, Kuwaiti, and Bahraini rulers now view politicians like Mohamed Morsi of Egypt as their enemies, as they do Hamas and its progeny — including CAIR.

While the Gulf monarchs have not become any less Islamist, they have acquired a clear-eyed appreciation of the harm that MB-related groups can do.

-----

The UAE minister of state for foreign affairs replied that if organizations can show that their “approach has changed,” they are eligible to appeal “to have their names eliminated from the list.”
